Knifewing

Knifewing, who lives on the Zuni Reservation in New Mexico, is treading new ground by combining traditional Native American sounds with contemporary country music. The result is a touching journey into the proud, rich culture of the American Indian. " When I pick up my guitar and start singing, it's as if someone else is speaking through me." said Knifewing , who has been writing songs and performing before sellout crowds since l99l. " I play the role of a cultural ambassador, instilling renewed pride in Native American and sharing the legends and tales of Indian peoples with whoever will listen."

In l984 , Knifewing studied the art of silver smithing under noted master craftsmen Ray Tracy. " Native American music and dancing, silver smithing and sculpting help me discover my roots, and redefining my purpose."

Knifewing, who is Chiricahura Apache said he will not use angry theme and name-calling to get his point across in his songs." I particulary like the words of " Proud to be Indian": Don't forget the roots of your proud people-many fathers died trying to keep our ways. Remember those who brought us here. Follow in their footsteps to be proud to be Indian."

The performer's career continues to blossom. In l992 he appeared with Country superstar Waylon Jennings at a Farm Aid concert . Knifewings fan following grew after his performances were aired into millions of homes via TNN- The Nashville Network. He has also tried acting, co-staring with John Saxon in an Italian- made film called "Jonathan Of The Bears". The film will also feature his music.

Knifewing provided the soundtrack for " People of the Eagle," a TV documentary that aired in Phoenix. High Schools across the Southwest have cited Knifewing as a "role model" for his stand against alcohol and drug abuse.
